These are made in-situ and should not be
confused with inferior wooden plank-type mock beams.
Initially a metal mesh framework is
adapted and attached to the ceiling. This provides a
structure onto which a plaster base coat is built up. Once
set, the surface layer of plaster is applied, contoured and
characterised to give the necessary surface detail.
Subsequently the beam is stained to give the extremely
realistic appearance as seen above. Several different
colours of stain are available, Walnut stain seems to give
especially good results. |
